Fechtner model building at Formula Student - at least two servos from us

Formula Student

The Formula Student is an international design contest for students in which teams from different colleges and universities compete against each other. This is not only due to the pure speed of the racing car built within the framework of restrictive regulations. The production costs, the engineering and a fictional marketing plan of the vehicle are also assessed.

The Scuderia Mensa, the racing team of RheinMain University, is also participating in this competition. Since 2008 racing cars have been built at the Rüsselsheim-based university, which every year prove themselves at events all over Europe. For the season 2017, the Scuderia Mensa developed a completely new vehicle that differs from its predecessors in almost every point. Through the development of a carbon monocoque, the transition from an 4 to 1 cylinder engine and the reduction of the rim diameter to 10 inches, the weight of the vehicle, to 34kg, was reduced to ready-to-run 190kg.

Also some mounting systems, such as throttle valve and clutch have been changed and since this year electrically controlled. Fechtner Modellbau supports the Scuderia Mensa with two powerful HiTec servos. A servo controls the clutch so that when the clutch is switched off, the clutch is opened briefly automatically and another actuator can change the gear without load. The second servo sits in the rear wing of the vehicle and adjusts it to a position with low air resistance as soon as the vehicle is on a straight line, thus increasing the final speed.

The Scuderia Mensa thanks Fechtner Modellbau for the great support and cooperation!
