keep it simple part 2 / behind the scenes

After we reported about the new license plate configurator two weeks ago and the feedback was absolutely brilliant, we have now started the second part of the restructuring measure. The result has just been published.

Our problem

The old order form has been a thorn in our side for months. No dependencies could be defined, the price calculation is complicated, the software behind it slows down the online shop and the clarity is anything but good. That is why we have been looking for an alternative since November last year and found what we were looking for.

Corona pandemic, Christmas sales, Black Week campaign

The implementation was slowed down by the enormous volume of orders. At the beginning demo license plates had to be created, state coats of arms had to be found and overviews had to be created. More work than expected. Then the forms had to be defined that define the dependencies (for example, no state coat of arms may be queried for a Bundeswehr license plate or the province and the initial registration must be queried in Italy).

Our aim has always been to keep the ordering process as simple as possible and to forego a large number of items. At the same time, however, to map the most comprehensive configurator possible. Just as expected from an online model building approval office. The result is impressive:

Configurator-German

After we had implemented Germany, admittedly the most complicated of all countries - we wanted to get feedback from you and asked test customers and evaluated the shop's data. The result was overwhelmingly positive. Smaller bugs were fixed immediately and suggestions for improvement were implemented immediately. Therefore the continuation today.

Keep it simple

Today we have made 112 articles out of 9 articles and at the same time created a higher choice. We were also able to reduce the number of categories from 17 to 4.

sequel follows

In the next few days we will be outsourcing Switzerland, the United States of America, Canada and Australia from the global configuration in order to create a full range of license plate variants here as well.

In addition, this year we will once again make major adjustments to our online shop, expand the range, further improve the brand image and provide a little more content, which is all going on at Fechtner-Modellbau. Be curious!

  • Just great!

Really a great article for an ingenious ordering system! It's a lot of fun to browse through the shop, order and then receive the goods, which are always well packaged. What I really enjoy again and again are the gummy bears that you and your model shop colleagues always put in the parcel.

I always think to myself, when I see how many individual parts you have in your shop, what kind of work it is to create and maintain the articles, to document the quantities, etc., that would interest me how it works and how much time and work is behind it.
